Habibi, the Iranian-American psych/garage rock outfit based in Brooklyn by way of Detroit, first surfaced with their self-titled debut LP on Burger Records in 2014, featuring Nest favorites “Wrong To The Right People” and “Detroit Baby”. The Cardamom Garden EP, (Modern Sky 2018), was the followup, a quick, potent blast driven by ace single “Gypsy Love”.

2020 marks the return of Habibi with their second LP Anywhere But Here, out now on Muddguts Records. “Angel Eyes” is the newest single, and while the album retains the emotion and minimalist vibe of their debut, “Born Too Late” and “Stronghold” are highlights, stepping forward with an assurance and attitude. The record peaks with antisocial anthems “Misunderstood” and “Hate Everyone But You”.

Your opportunity to spend some quality time with Habibi will be granted this month, with upcoming shows including:  Moroccan Lounge (LA) 2/28, Bottom of the Hill (Noise Pop SF) 2/29, and on March 1st, an Amoeba signing at the Haight Street location (SF) in the afternoon, and a showcase at Harlow’s (Sacramento) that evening. Their full West Coast schedule is available here.
