PICTURE THIS: The Family Crest + Branches @ Great American Music Hall, SF 2/13/14
We were so glad we caught Branches‘ set, treating us with their folk-rock, littered with beautiful three part harmonies. The crowd couldn’t help but dance and sing along during their performance. The group played a wonderful cover of BeyoncĂ©’s “Halo” and some new songs to keep you dancing.
Opening the night with the sound of lapping water and a fog horn, The Family Crest declared itself a San Francisco band. With lines like “You have all but given up on that stone you call a heart,” you would expect their music to be a bit of a downer. The Great American Music Hall in SF was anything but a depressing place to be Thursday night. The band filled up the music hall with rock’n symphonic pop.
Their music is not something you can passively enjoy. It requires active participation, dancing, singing, and generally having a good time. Proposing marriage to everyone in attendance with the song “Marry Me” may have been taking things a little too far, but we are in San Francisco, so what the hell. We reluctantly left the Great American Music Hall thinking the night had all the best parts of a family gathering. Are you “looking for a good time”? Then The Family Crest has just the music you need.
