First, lets get some real talk out of the way: for fans of We Are Scientists, the last four years have been very, very long. Fortunately, everyone feels better now, right? Because the talented trio — Keith Murray and Chris Cain, plus drummer Keith Carne — finally made their triumphant return to San Francisco last Wednesday at The Independent.

The band played a well-balanced and energetic set, opening with the fantastic “Return the Favor” from their latest effort, TV en Français, and progressing through classics like “This Scene is Dead,” “Lethal Enforcer,” “I Don’t Bite” — you get the picture. In between songs, the crowd was treated to the comedic stylings of Murray and Cain, ridiculous improv that never gets old. All in all, this show was a sweet return for a band many were concerned would never make another album.

And let us not forget the fantastic opener, PAWS. Although the outspoken Scottish trio is now unexpectedly famous for their recent altercation with Morrissey, they deserve more credit for their music. These guys rock hard, and their sophomore album, Youth Culture Forever, just dropped on May 8th.
