TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 6/20/19 Edition

June 20. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

This time out on Tracks of the Week, we’ll kick off with a fuzzy gem from Pip Blom. “Daddy Issues” is just one of the wonders hiding on the Amsterdam crew’s new LP Boat, recently released on Heavenly Recordings. Be on the lookout for Southern California dates in November, including 11/18 at the Soda Bar, San Diego and 11/19 at the Echo, LA. Another LP getting major time on The Nest turntable is Jamila Woods’ Legacy! Legacy!, out now on Jagjaguwar. Check out “Baldwin” (ft. Nico Segal), and eyes up this week to catch the Chicago native live: 6/21 at the El Rey, LA, followed by Bay Area dates at the Great American Music Hall on 6/22, and the Cornerstone Berkeley on 6/23.

Marika Hackman is back with a new LP, Any Human Friend due out 8/9 on Sub Pop, and “i’m not where you are” reaffirms her magic touch. She’ll be spending some quality time in Europe touring, making it to the West Coast in November, on the 4th at the Starline Social Club in Oakland, and on the 6th in West Hollywood at the Roxy. “Can’t Tell Me No” is the title track of the latest from Summer Cannibals. The LP is out 6/28 on Tiny Engines, and your chances to see them are… now! Tonight, 6/20 at the Satellite in LA, and 6/22 at Cafe Du Nord in SF. Finishing off the week in style, it is new Wreck & Reference. “Sturdy Dawn” is off the forthcoming LP Absolute Still Life, out 7/19 on The Flenser.
