It wasn’t to our surprise that Spoon put on a phenomenal show. An energy packed set filled with dramatic shadows cascaded from rectangular backdrops. Their stage arrangement had a very retro “live-in-the-studio” style setup.
Their musical chemistry and onstage charisma are a delight. Spoon has consistently provided a catalog of catchy and well-crafted songs. They have a way of writing within they sound, while still remaining fresh.
Maybe it was the black vest and white shirt pairing or the combination with the lazer lights, but frontman Britt Daniel had a modern take on Han Solo look.
The first show from any band in ages that the entire audience seemed thrilled to be there and have a great time. It is a true testament of a band that congregates that many good people in a venue as large as the Fox.
On tour supporting Spoon was Austin’s Sweet Spirit. They are proof you don’t need to be an orchestral rock or ska band to make use of more than 6 members. A strong opener that can hold their own and was well received by fresh ears. Their big sound is rooted in the soul of Sabrina Ellis’ powerful voice.
