YOU GOTTA SEE THIS: “Erica America” by Jens Lekman

July 10. 2012 | By Sean Morris

Between the clinically depressed Best Coast album and Fiona Apple yowling about urine-soaked feathers, the time of the year most commonly associated with travel and relaxation sure has been getting a bad rap lately. “Erica America,” the first taste of Jens Lekman’s eagerly-awaited I Know What Love Isn’t, follows suit. Clearly Lekman isn’t referring to the dearth of enjoyable blockbuster movies when he moans, “Summer is exhausting me with its exhaust fumes and empty promises.” With the camera trained on his profile, our inconsolable narrator seems alone even though a full band (complete with sexy sax soloist) is right behind him.
