PICTURE THIS: Daughter @ Independent, SF 10/29/12

Choir of Young Believers, a band out of Denmark, started out he night with singing washed in reverb that is used more like an instrument than a vocal. They sang songs that devolve into noise and then reemerge with rock opera like qualities. Choir of Young Believers, an interesting band with some nice crowd-pleasing grooves.

Is it the gorgeous singing of Daughter (Elena Tonra) that makes the dark subjects in her music seem not so bad? Do we all need to visit the places Elena brings to the light once in a while? Elena was mostly hidden beneath her bangs with brief flashes of a smile brought on by the crowd’s enthusiasm. Elena and her bandmates played through songs from her two EP’s His Young Heart  and The Wild Youth, including her just released single “Smother.” Need some gorgeous bittersweet music to fill that “hurts so good” spot? Give Daughter a test run.
