LIVE REVIEW: Metronomy + Cloud Control @ The Observatory, Santa Ana 6/15/14

When we arrived at The Observatory on Friday night we were elated to see that that night’s bill had rightfully been upgraded to the main room. Having caught Metronomy several times in the past, we knew the tiny stage of the Constellation Room just wouldn’t be able to hold the chill grooves of the group. The set started out rocky with the venue’s sound system giving out in spurts throughout opener “Monstrous”. But of course, the four-piece (plus a touring fifth member) persevered and sailed right through it. The biggest cheers of the night were doled out for Oscar Cash, as he stepped out from his keyboards to front a saucy cover of Box Codax’s “Naked Smile”.

As avid Cloud Control fans, we were disheartened at the meek 6 songs that the Australian four-piece was allotted. Even so, we were pleased that they crammed in our favorites “Gold Canary”, “There’s Nothing In The Water We Can’t Fight”, and “Dojo Rising”.
