PICTURE THIS: Parov Stelar Trio @ Regency Ballroom, SF 12/15/12

Known as the founder of electro-Swing, Parov Stelar, an Austrian who has been making a name for himself worldwide for the last decade, brought a thunderous dance party to San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom on Saturday night. Parov Stel

ar is the stage name of Marcus Füreder, an electronic music artist who merges the horns and voices of jazz and swing with the chest thumping bass and drums known for their place in the house music clubs. The trio consists of Parov Stelar, with a laptop and sound manipulation controls, and 2 horn players, on trumpet and saxophone. The energy was amazing; the sounds and lights explosive. The crowd danced ferociously from the very first song through the very last. The songs are exciting, but there was considerable beat homogeneity. It seemed like break-beats could have been peppered into the set to build some suspense every once in a while. Despite this particular shortcoming, it was still a great party.
