Believe it or not, the excitement for some artists can only go as far as an interesting band name, but Glasgow’s Golden Grrrls has a lot more to offer than that and their debut self-titled full length works as the perfect evidence.
The underlying appeal of this three-piece can be found not only in their slightly chaste lyricism and upbeat, lo-fi pop style, but also in their finesse and shared vocal harmonies, which is reminiscent of their moodier labelmates Veronica Falls. A good chunk of tracks that make up Golden Grrrls are somewhat short, take the opener “New Pop” or the beach bound sounds of “Wrld Peace,” but the overall catchiness helps them to stay revolving in your head. With songs like “Take Your Time” and “Date It,” it’s evident that the album coasts on heavy feel good vibes from start to finish — and with such a fun, lighthearted nature, the sensation is contagious.
