PICTURE THIS: Finish Ticket @ The New Parish, Oakland 12/22/11
The San Francisco Bay Area is filled with great local bands. The New Parish in Oakland hosted a small sampling of them for a little pre-Christmas cheer with Finish Ticket, The She’s, Tumbleweed Wanderers and Local Hero: local bands that you need to hear.
Local Hero started off the night with a set of songs off their latest EP, Aldgate. (You can see our review of Aldgate and listen to some their music HERE) They also played their latest single “Lady Wisconsin.”
I had never heard Tumbleweed Wanderers before and the great harmonies by Jeremy Lyon, Zak Mandrel-Romann, and Rob Fidel were a treat. Patrick Glynn on keys and Daniel Blum on drums rounded out the band. Tumbleweed Wanderers play Americana rock; add in their harmonies and they have a great sound. Playing songs like “Take it Back” from their latest self-titled EP, this is definitely band you should give a listen to.
The She’s, an all-girl band, was up next. With Sami Perez on bass and vocals, Hannah Valente on guitar and vocals, Eva Treadway on guitar, and Sinclair Riley on drums, The She’s have a surf-rock, ’60s sound reminiscent of the Beach Boys.
Closing out the night was Finish Ticket a rock band with Brendan Hoye on vocals, Garren Orr on drums, Alex DiDonato on guitar, Chris Arellano on guitar, and Michael Hoye on bass. Finish Ticket played a mix of songs from their EPs Life Underwater and Shake a Symphony. They’ll be headed into the studio in 2012 to record a full length album; keep an eye out for it!
