PICTURE THIS: Camper Van Beethoven @ Rickshaw Stop, SF 2/16/13
The Black Marshmallows from Santa Cruz opened with a set of alt-country and southern rock. By the time Camper Van Beethoven hit the stage, the sold-out show was completely filled to capacity. It took a while organizing the group shot, which one band member said would be like “herding cats,” and another admitted they “really don’t like each other.” But we couldn’t tell from their expressions and laughter. Perhaps he was pulling our leg. Or it could’ve been the hotties that showed up during the shoot. While they were there to support their new album, La Costa Perdida, many classics were played, including “Pictures of Matchstick Men” and “Take the Skinheads Bowling.”
