PICTURE THIS: Bassnectar @ Bill Graham Civic 9/17/11

SF’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium was filled to capacity on Saturday for Lorin Ashton (aka Bassnectar) and his Bass Center III show. Opening support was provided by Low RIDERz, Big Gigantic, Wolfgang Gartner, and Dan Deacon – and they got the crowd hopping. The place got heated, but the kids were dressed appropriately (or should I say undressed). With all the panties, bras, and fishnet on display there must have been a collective run made to Victoria’s Secret last week.

Everybody seemed to be sporting tons of battery-operated toys and glow-in-the-dark trinkets. The crowd vibe seemed to be Halloween-meets-exotic-erotic-meets-high-school-dance-meets-the-circus. Vau De Vire Society‘s scantily clad artists danced around the upper level. The troop’s amazing performers included a hula-hooper, pole dancer, poi twirler, and even a plate spinner – to name just a few.

Lorin was a blur of hair under the flashing lights and videos, but he had some killer beats, mixing in all kinds of tunes fast and slow, from Blur‘s “Song 2” to Yann Tiersen‘s “L’autre Valse D’Amelie.”

According to Bassnectar, this show was his largest crowd to date.
