TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 11/11/2021 Edition

Welcome back to another Tracks, kicking off this time with the return of Chastity Belt. “Fear” taps into the heavier side of their uncertainty anthems. The 7” single of “Fake”/“Fear” is due out 12/3 on Milk! Records.

Sasami Ashworth keeps it busy. Fresh off a production assist on the new Hand Habits LP, she’s unleashed “The Greatest” from her forthcoming  sophomore LP Squeeze, out 2/25 on Domino. Currently on tour w Japanese Breakfast, she’ll be hitting Europe for dates with Mitski next year.

NYC-based Sloppy Jane is up next with “Wilt” from their latest release Madison, out last week on Saddest Factory Records via Dead Oceans. If you’re LA-adjacent, their release show happens 12/3 at Pico/Union Project.

Finishing off this week, “Joy” is the latest single from Vera Ellen (Girl Friday). Where GF’s Androgynous Mary was monochromatic, all tension and shadows, It’s Your Birthday unrolls at a looser pace, coming into focus like an old Polaroid, a fuzzy warmth at its core. Fulfilling a life-long dream for the New Zealander, the LP is out now on Flying Nun/ Modular.
