PREVIEW: Mayer Hawthorne and The County @ Ace of Spades, Sacramento 6/19

June 12. 2012 | By Mayumi Okamoto

Modern day rhythm and blues crooner Andrew Cohen, better known as Mayer Hawthorne, will bring his talent and old school flavor to Sacramento’s Ace of Spades on June 19th prior to embarking on a month long tour with Foster The People. It’s difficult to refrain from comparing Mayer Hawthorne’s aesthetic to the iconic soul musicians from the 1950s and 1960s. With Cohen’s Michigan roots, Motown influences are omnipresent throughout Mayer Hawthorne’s most recent 2011 album How Do You Do. Cohen writes what he means and means what he sings with his no-game-playing straight forward delivery of refreshingly honest lyrics over soulful rhythms. Sacramento’s Ace of Spades is sure to be grooving when Mayer Hawthorne and The County roll through town.
