PICTURE THIS: Jonathan Coulton + John Roderick @ Great American Music Hall, SF 6/20/12

Jonathan Coulton, accompanied by a full band, brought his unique power pop and folk sound (with quirky lyrics that have great geek appeal) to Great American Music Hall on Wednesday night in support of his latest album Artificial Heart.

The sold-out crowd enthusiastically sang along with almost every word of every song, including highlights “Je Suis Rick Springfield” (with a verse of Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” thrown in for good measure), “Code Monkey,” and “Skullcrusher Mountain” (which was sung by Coulton’s “horribly disfigured assistant, Scarface.”)

John Roderick of Seattle’s The Long Winters opened with a set that showcased his songwriting skills with moving solo acoustic renditions of his band’s music.
