TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 4/16/20 Edition

April 16. 2020 | By Wayne Jessup

Post Sky Larkin, Katie Harkin has kept busy, aiding and abetting Sleater-Kinney, Waxahatchee, Courtney Barrnett, and Torres tours, while managing to tease us with her first single last year, “Mist On Glass/Independence Day”, In between all that action, she put together her debut LP Harkin, out 4/24 on her own Hand Mirror label, featuring a killer band with herself, Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak), shown off to great effect on “Nothing The Night Can’t Change”.

Wares, the project of Edmonton-based Cassia Hardy, comes into its own on “Surrender Into Waiting Arms”, from new LP Survival, out 4/24 on Mint Records. Coriky is the new band from DC’s own Ian MacKaye, Amy Farina, and Joe Lally. Their first single “Clean Kill” taps into the ghosts of both The Evens and Fugazi, but twists it to new ends. Their self-titled debut LP is out 5/29 on Dischord Records.

LA’s Peaking Lights keep on evolving, never content to rest. “Soft Escape” is their new single, previewing their forthcoming Dekmantel LP E S C A P E. Portland’s Maita follows up 2017’s Waterbearer with a new LP, Best Wishes, out earlier this month on Kill Rock Stars, and “A Beast” is the stunning new video.
