The Rentals are finally back in full force with their first full length in fifteen years and first Los Angeles appearance since 2007. Lost in Alphaville dropped last week and the band announced a few shows on both the West and East coast to celebrate the release.

This time around Matt Sharp‘s band included Ryen Slegr of Ozma, Keith Murray of We Are Scientists, Shawn Glassford of STRFKR, Lauren Chipman, Nedelle Torrisi, and a special guest appearance by Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius. The all-star lineup came out with loads of energy and jumped right into the set and got the crowd jumping and moving from the very start.

Half way through the set, Sharp took us down memory lane and shared his musical influences and experiences. The Kinks, The Cure, Black Sabbath, and Lucius were all on Sharp’s “obsessed list”.
The show closed with “Friends of P”, during which the beat changed up and transitioned first to “Pop Muzik” by M and then into the Ghostbusters theme song. Sharp, along with Wolfe, and Laessig, made his way into the crowd and instructed everyone to kneel down and whisper, “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!” It was an epic end to an amazing show.

We Are Scientists opened up the night to help the crowd find their “groove bone”.
