SHOW PREVIEW: Gruff Rhys

October 14. 2018 | By Wayne Jessup

It’s a rare opportunity at hand as Welsh legend Gruff Rhys hits the West Coast. Rhys has never stood still, from his days in Super Furry Animals to his collaboration in Neon Neon to his solo LPs Hotel Shampoo and American Interior. His latest record titled Babelsberg (Rough Trade Records) is a widescreen wonder, stuffed full of songs that are journeys with “Negative Vibes” and “Architecture of Amnesia” standing tall. If you want to fill in some blanks, tune into our friends at BFF.FM, as The Owl Mag is proud to co-present Gruff being interviewed on The Eclectic Kettle show, airing at 8pm on Tuesday October 16th. As for the live experience, he’ll be finishing off the North American leg of his Babelsberg adventures at the Chapel in San Francisco on October 23rd and the Echo in Los Angeles on October 24th, accompanied by an absolutely loaded band: Sweet Baboo, Kliph Scurlock, and Osian Gwynedd. Lorkin O’Reilly, whose debut Heaven Depends came out in August on Team Love Records provides support for both shows.
