TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 6/3/2021 Edition

June 03. 2021 | By Wayne Jessup

Welcome back to another week of Tracks, kicking off at home in the Bay Area, with “Saltwater” from SF’s Hectorine. The project of Sarah Gagnon made an impact with her 2019 debut, and the Curtis Z. Austin directed video showcases her new LP Tears, out Friday on Paisley Shirt Records.

Brisbane-based The Goon Sax are back, five years on from their debut Up To Anything. “In The Stone” is our first taste of their forthcoming third LP Mirror II, out 7/9 on Matador worldwide, and Chapter Music in Aus/NZ.

Boston’s Ella Williams does business as Squirrel Flower, establishing herself with her 2020 debut I Was Born Swimming. “Flames and Flat Tires” is the third single from the new LP Planet (i), out 6/25 on Polyvinyl/Full Time Hobby.

Bringing this episode to a close, as if a new Flock of Dimes album wasn’t enough, Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack are back as Wye Oak. “TNT” is their pastoral new single, out last week on Merge, and they leave us with the promise of more to come.
