With an eerie, distorted projection of The Shining on the back curtain for an hour before the show, one might have thought that the band coming out to play was interested in shock and instilling fear into its audience. But the harmonious rhythms of opener Silent Land Time Machine and the headlining band, as well, proved the performers were there to inspire instead. Zealous fans lining the stage immediately fell into a trance when This Will Destroy You began to play their drawn-out cuts, demonstrating that amidst a culture over saturated in radio pop, new music can still affect fans as deeply as ever.
