Indie folk music, stripped down to vocals and an acoustic guitar, is clearly what Ian Fisher & The Present do best. Fisher doesn”t

hold much back about the doubt and regrets of a past relationship in the nine tracks, which are filled with familiar twangy vocals like that of Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros” vocalist Alex Ebert, and Bob Dylan. Ryan Thomas Carpenter”s guitar accompaniment, reminiscent of delicate and uplifting Bright Eyes” rifts, creates a beautiful juxtaposition with Fisher”s sorrowful lyrics.

“Why Do I Go?” captures an absolutely lovely folk melody and enriching harmonies crooning heartbreaking lyrics, “is this love that I give you, is this pain? And is my lack of love for you, or just for everything?” Continuing his self-reflection, Fisher stretches his voice with the quickened tempo of “Autobiographies” before slowing things down in the final

song, “Too Close.” With honest songs detailing fear, doubt, and regret of love, Ian Fisher & The Present have created great folk music worthy of some appreciation.
