As a touring member of Maynard’s Puscifer, it won’t surprise you to know that Carina Round’s new album Tigermending is a bit dark, maybe even a bit demented. The fourth LP from the UK artist, featuring collaborations with everyone from Billy Corgan to Brian Eno, Tigermending is exactly the kind of album to put on when you just want to stay in bed all day and wish for rain. The breadth of Round’s voice — which moves seamlessly from an almost operatic soprano to a low, deep alto growl — presents an evocative mix of emotions from track to track, flowing from joyous, to sad, to stark raving mad. Fans of artists like The Knife or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will delight in Round’s command of moody, experimental progressions, while those who delight in the angsty anthems of Fiona Apple (who, thank the music gods, has finally, FINALLY graced us with a new album) will find Round’s tender, if nebulous lyrics refreshingly earnest.

Kicking off her US tour at the historic Casbah in San Diego the day her album drops May 1st, Carina Round will be performing as a solo artist and with Puscifer through the end of June.
