Saturday night’s early show at the Moroccan Lounge featured two East Coast-based artists finishing up a national tour supporting new album releases.

I first saw From Indian Lakes in 2009 or so in Chowchilla, CA. Since then the band has released five full-length albums, including several on Triple Crown Records, and frontman Joey Vannucchi now lives in New York City, a far cry from rural California. Their set on Saturday was far less raucous than some I’ve seen in previous years, but it felt right for the time, and fitting for how their music has evolved.

Queen of Jeans, hailing from Philadelphia, released If You’re Not Afraid, I’m Not Afraid on Topshelf Records in August. Despite admitting to having gone a little too hard at karaoke the night before, singer Miriam Devora’s voice carried the band’s set beautifully.
