FROM THE NEWS NEST: San Francisco 2011 Outside Lands Music Festival a Smashing Success

February 10. 2012 | By Collin Welbon

Last year, Outside Land Music & Arts Festival producers and concert pioneers, Another Planet Entertainment and Superfly Presents, collaborated with Dr. Patrick Tierney from SFSU to conduct the “Economic Impact of the 2011 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival on the City of San Francisco and the Bay Area” – an analysis to assess the impact of Outside Lands’ attendees on the local economy. Well, the results are in, and the data reveals some incredibly positive effects on San Francisco and the Bay Area.

Here’s some of the data from the 2011 Outside Lands’ impact analysis:

  • Created 683 full-time equivalent jobs in San Francisco, and the greater Bay Area also increased employment, with 73 jobs created
  • Donated $1.45 million to San Francisco’s Recreation & Park Department (SFRPD) in 2011 and a total of more than $4.36 million over its four year existence
  • Full-cost recovery event – all city services impacted by the festival are paid by the event producers

As the data above shows, Outside Lands is truly setting a new standard by effectively boosting the Bay Area’s economy and helping keep our parks open and a place for everyone to enjoy, while honoring Northern California’s spectacularly diverse culture. From the beginning, the festival producers specifically designed the festival to ensure that it not only promotes arts and music but also local businesses and sustainability. So, as the 2012 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival approaches and tickets become available, you can buy your ticket knowing that your money is going back into the community to promote positive progression beyond the music.

“When we imagined Outside Lands, we set out to create something unique to fit San Francisco’s exceptional character,” said Gregg Perloff, CEO and founder of Another Planet Entertainment. “We’re proud of the economic and cultural benefits that this event is having on the community.”
