You wouldn’t expect a song called “Be A Jerk” to start off with a cheerful whistle, but it does. The song continues in a catchy, upbeat manner as lead singer Melissa Lusk sings in a light and clear voice about why being a jerk isn’t worth it, and suddenly it all makes sense. The six members of Boy Girl Party call themselves “sincerely nerdy and unabashedly silly,” and that shows the most in the quirky lyrics on their debut EP, Dear Dear. But the three-part harmonies, pop rock melodies, and use of instruments from the viola to the banjitar prove that Boy Girl Party is also on a serious mission to make you dance.
