The term “Pop music,” when it’s being used to define an actual genre, can be hard to quantify. Some “pop” artists vacillate between acoustic Country and Western twang one day, EDM flourishes the next. You might not be able to pin modern pop music down, but you know it when you see it.

Cardiknox, the duo of Lonnie Angle and Thomas Dutton, are firmly, unabashedly pop music. The pair, originally from Seattle, and now based in Los Angeles, have just released their awesome debut LP, Portrait. Full of positive, catchy-AF jams, it’s caught the attention of some pop heavyweights, earning them tour spots with Carly Rae Jepson and The Knocks. Lead single “On My Way” is an anthem of redemption, detailing what it takes to drive “through the night with the tank on empty.” Let its uplifting hooks get your body moving and your soul rejoicing, and get hip to Cardiknox.
