High School Reunion: Sadia Harper (1992 – 1996)

January 05. 2012 | By Sadia H.

Ahhhh… to be in high school in the ’90s.

R&B made sure my booty never stayed still, grunge made me believe that rhubarb hair was the way to go, and Janeane Garofalo helped me realize my offbeat humour wasn’t such a lost cause. After going to the same Chicago school since the first grade, sophomore year I left for a math and science boarding school in Aurora… yeah that’s right… partytopia.

But us midwestern kids knew how to find the good times. Once it was lights out in the dorms, window screens were popped open and we were on our way to check points, warehouses, and DJs. Yep… I was a bit of a raver kid. No, I didn’t wear pacifiers. No, I wasn’t all about getting destroyed (drugs are bad kids). I was just a girl who liked to dance… and unless I moved to Europe, where they let kids go to clubs, raves were my only option. Don’t get the wrong idea here people, my world wasn’t all phat pants and vinyl. But electronic music took me to a level of happiness that I had never experienced before… and I’ve been smiling ever since.
