HEAR THIS: BLUSHH

April 19. 2020 | By Wayne Jessup

“All my friends are leaving me behind…” are the first words heard before plunging into a guitar rollercoaster on Blushh’s debut LP RIP Apathy on Anxiety Blanket Records. Blushh is the project of LA-based Shab Ferdowsi, and she’s put together a tight band of Skylar Garn, Arturs Reirs, and Kenzo Cardenas to support it. It’s hard to believe that almost two years have flown by since we spotlighted their Thx 4 Asking EP. Peep the Caleb White directed video for March single “Too Dark” below:

The opening double shot of “All My Friends” and “What Am I Doing With My Life” set the tone for the proceedings thematically, and the saving grace throughout is the knot of guitars and airtight execution, (last summer’s single “July”), that keep you coming back. They’re just as effective dialing it back, as evidenced on “Melting”. “You Make Me Hate It All” and closer “Hell” standout as anthems, capping off an assured debut that makes its point concisely, coming in at just over half an hour. We’ll look forward avidly to the time when we can hear the band rock these songs live.

Keep your eyes peeled on the Blushh Instagram for an ongoing series of performances curated by Shab Ferdowsi that kicked off with amazing sets from Zelma Stone and Illuminati Hotties, and continues with upcoming appearances from The Y Axes and M.A.G.S., Maggie Gently and Ugly Sweaters, plus Bandie and Sour Widows, with more bands and dates listed below.
