YOU GOTTA SEE THIS: “Menace II Society” by Freddie Gibbs feat. Dom Kennedy and Polyester
Either Freddie Gibbs is auditioning for a slot on the zillionth incarnation of Dr. Dre’s Detox or the West Coast is recruiting out of town rappers because they want someone besides Bethany Cosentino repping Southern California. Either way, an entire cast and crew hopped into a drop-top complete with flux capacitor and traveled back to 1993 to film the “Menace II Society” video. The only anachronism is Gibbs’ delivery, which is far less laid back than is customary for your average G-funk production. That might be because he’s too busy flowing to… um… inhale.
