YOU GOTTA SEE THIS: “Bundle Up” by The Cool Kids

April 20. 2011 | By Katie

The Cool Kids‘ “Bundle Up” is like the Inception of music videos. The entire video is a “making of” the video itself, which seems to feature both mermaids and polar bears. Stay with me now. It’s a satire of the pseudo-seriousness of music videos, and the cast of characters includes a pretentious French filmer, a British punk band, and hipster directors who utter such nonsense as “Ice fishing represents the advance of industrial capitalism, and the mermaid is a metaphor for our addiction to foreign oil.” Needless to say, it doesn’t take itself seriously at all—and that’s why it’s great.
