TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 10/01/2020 Edition

October 01. 2020 | By Wayne Jessup

Welcome back to another week of Tracks. Repping Cleveland, the collective Mourning [A] BLKstar unleashed The Cycle on Don Giovanni earlier this year. It’s an involving work reminiscent of Nia by Blackalicious, and the widescreen epic will draw you back for repeated listens. No matter how it breaks in November, “Be” is the anthem you need to carry with you.

If there’s one thing we at the Nest need right about now, it would be a new Tune-Yards single. Merrill and Nate and the gang are back with “Nowhere, Man”, out now on 4AD, and brought to life in a stunning video that not only honors their legacy of weirdness, but probably put a smile on Peter Gabriel’s face as well.

Philadelphia’s Godcaster take a kitchen sink approach, but keeps the hooks at the core on the relentless “All The Feral Girls In The Universe”. Long Haired Locusts is their debut LP, released in September on Ramp Local.

Hazy Sour Cherry follow up last year’s winning debut Tour de Tokyo with a new single, a cover of the Stooges “No Fun”. This Saturday, 10/3, you can catch them live as part of the Damnably 14 label celebration festivities that kick off at 7am Pacific, 10 am Eastern.

Finishing up in Adelaide, Australia this week, the charming duo Wing Defence have conjured up a new EP Friends, and “Relocate” is our track of choice. In closing, don’t forget, as tomorrow marks the first Friday of the month, it’s Bandcamp day!
