HEAR THIS: Air Waves
“Can anyone settle?” In “Milky Way,” New York’s indie darlings Air Waves ask that question in a way that’ll make you contemplate every time you and your lover re-enacted that scene from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where Joel and Clementine laid on the ice. The band doesn’t ooze the indie sentimentality of lo-fi Beat Happening in “Calm” or the awkwardness of Frankie Cosmos in “Lines”, yet that’s a great thing for Air Waves. Each Air Waves song is a mug of hot cocoa you take in after a snowy day. Listeners will have their imaginary scarves on, walking awkwardly with their invisible, bulky clothes. And when their lovers see them waddle, they can’t help but fall in love with Air Waves, too.
