HEAR THIS: Miner

Miner by Ali Winston

Los Angeles-based folk rock outfit Miner are an expression of romance through electro banjo plucking and heart felt vocals. The husband and wife duo at the front of the band are adorable additions to solid musicianship, providing the world with a follow-up to the back and forth of Edward Sharpe’s “Home.” The song “Lovely” is comfortably romantic, complete with lyrics that should be cheesy but are saved by the sheer earnest presentation of the band. The band is successful at sampling the country genre with their electric, mandolin, and sprawling lyrics. It’s southern music for southern California.

Other tracks to catch are “Hey Love” and “Carousal,” but only if you have to abbreviate the album. There is a special place in every music listener’s heart for fun, sun filled tunes perfect for driving up the PCH on a Sunday afternoon.
