UK solo artist Liz Green showcases her distinctive vocal talents on her forthcoming debut album O Devotion! (released February 7th). Green uses a variety of influences, from New Orleans blues to mid-European klezmer and it results in an intoxicating, carnivalesque mix of woozy sounds. The lyrics of “Displacement Song” and “Hey Joe” deal with imminent threats and the music combines acoustic guitar with brass and judiciously-employed percussion to create an unsettling sonic landscape. Like Tom Waits, Green produces narrative songs with off-kilter arrangements to great effect. Not belonging to any scene or trend Liz Green is a unique musical talent, well-worth watching out for.
