HEAR THIS: You Can Be A Wesley

September 22. 2011 | By Hillary Smith

There are many reasons you should be listening to You Can Be A Wesley, a quartet from a basement in Boston. Saara Untracht-Oakner, Winston Macdonald, Nick Curran, and Dylan Ramsey are a distortion-heavy, almost rock, garage band that you would only hope are playing in some garage in your neighborhood. Saara’s vocals are retro and lackadaisical; a strong part of the band’s appeal. “I’ve been dreaming about…creatures, coming from doom on foggy beaches,” sings Saara in a clear, yet dazed voice for “Creatures.” The drums and electric guitar never fail to give you a dance-worthy beat. Not the “party” kind of dance beat, but the kind of dance beat that involves swaying and shaking your head in the I-don’t-care-who’s-watching-me-this-song-is-freakin’-great kind of way. It’s more in a hipster dance beat kind of way; a good hipster dance beat. You Can Be A Wesley are young adults who are having fun, but sound damn great doing it. Support the youth and listen to this Boston-based basement band.
