Waves of shimmering, angelic synths. Fat, reverb-heavy drums. Breathy vocals that sound like echoes in the distance. These are the tropes of chillwave, but Albany-based duo Titanics makes them feel new again with ear-catching guitar riffs and strong pop melodies.

Their first album, Soft Treasure, is chock full of hit material. Frontman Mark Lombardo‘s tasteful beat making is on full display thanks to instrumentals like “Table Bet,” a minimalist jam with a buzzing bass and mellow synth melodies. And the hypnotic slow-dance number “Two Days,” a fitting showcase for both Lombardo and guitarist Derek Rogers, will take any hopeless romantic right back to high school prom.
