PICTURE THIS: Band of Skulls @ The Fonda Theatre, LA 9/19/12
Watching Band of Skulls at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles was what we imagined a slightly softer Led Zeppelin on the Sunset Strip in the ’70s would be like.
The band wasted no time drawing in the audience by opening the night with “Sweet Sour”. Rather than embracing the elegance of the Fonda, Band of Skulls chose a stripped down stage presence drenched in simple blue and red lights.
Russell Marsden brought the energy needed to keep the audience engaged, something that can prove to be difficult for a three-piece band on a large stage–especially one with a stereotypical laid back bass player like Emma Richardson. One of the highlights of watching the rising band with only two full-length albums and an EP is it’s easy to sing along with all the songs.
