The Inland Empire’s music scene has a new addition in the form of New Manners. This five-piece band bring a clean, indie folk/rock sound to your ears with their self-titled EP, mastered by Pete Lyman (Best Coast/Bloc Party/St. Vincent). Though the band describes themselves as being “pieced together by members of former befriending touring bands” the six-track EP has a close-knit, sophisticated sound that is reminiscent of The Antlers and Bombay Bicycle Club. The opening track “Smaller Clothes” sets the tone of the EP with its pretty guitar hooks and wistful lyrics. We find the vocals especially enchanting, appealing to fans of Ben Gibbard and Jack Stedman. The band frequently played at Upland’s cool music and art venue, The Wire, which unfortunately closed its doors late last year. We hope that New Manners will soon venture out to Los Angeles proper – don’t keep them all to yourselves, San Bernardino!
