HEAR THIS: Katie Herzig

January 11. 2012 | By Christine Cook

There is a fine line between feel good folk and the girly pop that you hear on top 40 radio. Katie Herzig has mastered this balance, writing music with that loveable upbeat tempo but without those horribly cheesy lyrics. This Nashville singer-songwriter is anything but the country influence surrounding her, instead offering an indie-folk sound, with a vibe similar to Ingrid Michaelson and Basia Bulat. She has perfected the art of sweet and simple songs, crooning of love and self-discovery. Her latest album The Waking Sleep seems to hit the perfect chord, as has been shown by her successful takeover of television, appearing on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Sex and the City, and a Target commercial. Well hey, if it’s good enough for Target, it’s good enough for me.
