HEAR THIS: Jarbird

jarbird

It’s a bit of a cliché to say that less is more, but the newly formed London five-piece Jarbird have mastered the art of minimalism to a level that most bands couldn’t hope to achieve in years with one graceful sweep of a delicate harmonic hand. The first glimpse of their song was the gorgeous “Such Is The House”, a sparkling blend of achingly slow beats, crystal guitars and ethereal gleaming harmonies that eventual bursts into a bloom of synths, chimes and overlaid lyrics.

Even more sparsely beautiful is the tender poignant “More Bad Celebrity Poetry” – a track so intently minimal that it’s completely absorbing. The song plays for close to full minute before the heartbreakingly lovely piano kicks in, playing with silence and choral vocals with utter confidence and timing clever enough to be natural but unusual enough to be melancholically unsettling. It’s a track that quietly and gently demands your entire attention… and as if the song wasn’t captivating enough on its own, it comes complete with an unforgettable and painfully beautiful music video directed by Crowns and Owls.
