DITTIES FROM DOWN UNDER: Dick Diver

Dick Diver

Dick Diver are proud exponents of what would best be labelled Australiana. Dick Diver’s lyrical references to the Australian landscape and details of inner-city struggles are delivered with a combination of heartfelt sentiment and unkempt, garage-drenched musicality. The Melbourne band’s four singing, song-writing and instrument swapping constituents (three guys, one girl) have unfurled two records in quick succession over the past few years and this year’s sophomore effort, Calendar Days, firmly established their unique perspective in contemporary Australian songwriting. On Calendar Days’ upbeat-yet-wonky lead single “Alice,” Dick Diver refrain from urging the importance of their daily observations and casually unveil the fabric of their feelings while also welcoming you in for a laugh.
