ALBUM REVIEW: "Heart Like Feathers" by Robert Deeble

“And I just fell into a tide sweeping over the open” are not only some of the heartfelt lyrics that grace Robert Deeble's next album Heart Like Feathers (particularly the track “”Undertow”), but also a good characterization of the heartbeat of this album.

There's a consistency that carries a theme of peace and tranquility throughout every track all the way to the last note. I couldn't help but get carried away in the mood. The reflections are calming, not sleepy, almost like whispers of content in my hypnotized listening. I don't want to get all hippie on you or anything but I did feel compelled to close my eyes and get lost in Deeble's cool, complacent vocals. Peace, man.

There is a small break in the smooth arrangements on the track “The Colors of Dying” when the guitars tend to go a little rogue, into riffs that channel a chilled out version of Jimi Hendrix. It's a pleasing contradiction to the rest of the album and worth the distraction.
