TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 2/20/20 Edition

February 20. 2020 | By Wayne Jessup

This week on Tracks, we welcome back Soccer Mommy with “Circle The Drain” from the new LP Color Theory, out 2/28 on Loma Vista. Catch Soccer Mommy at Amoeba Hollywood on 2/26, playing a short set and signing. Bay Area folks, mark you calendars for the Fillmore on 4/29. We’ve been putting in some quality time with the new Shell Of A Shell. “Knock” is currently our jam, and their LP Away Team is out 2/28 on Exploding In Sound.

We’re still obsessing about 2019 here at The Nest. Two recurrent favorites from the summer are Palm Haze and Blushing. Palm Haze’s “Second Round” starts all smoky and minimalist before graduating to a pleasing noise storm. It’s from the Vancouver, BC duo’s Rêve Bleu LP on YHS Records. Austin’s Blushing exhibits a similar dynamic command on “So Many”, from their self-titled debut album on Wallflower Records.

Finishing up this week, it’s spotlight on Gyoza, the band. We’re never not spotlighting pot stickers, but at this juncture in time and space, we’re celebrating “In My Room”, the Barcelona outfit’s storming new single on Bandicoot Records. It follows up December single “Veins”, cementing the band’s next steps after their self-titled debut from late 2017.
