But honestly if you didn’t make it out to Laura Mvula you did miss a great show. Mvula gently rocked San Francisco into this dreamy land of R&B songs. With cello, violin, stand up bass, and a harp, all of her music had a lush sound. This was the show to go to if you really needed a big hug after a bad day.

Mvula covered a traditional American folk tune called “See-Line Woman,” which originated in southern African American church music. It was interesting to hear this young British singer interpret such a old American folk song.

In a perfect way to finish off the night, Mvula, with just her brother accompanying her on cello, did a lovely rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature,” with the audience providing all the backup singing needed.
