In an ideal world, The Mary Onettes should be saturating radio with their soaring wash of sound. But the radio and major label world that kept them shut out for so long has imploded, and perhaps it’s finally their time to rise from the ashes.

The Swedish band, led by the Ekstrom brothers, has been plugging away since 2000, and garnered some attention in 2009 with the insular, haunting Islands. Like Elbow in their early days, it’s a band you can’t help but root for.

“Evil Coast” is the first taste from next year’s Hit The Waves (3/12), and follows up last year’s Love Forever EP with a bright ringing sound that’s perfect for the optimism the turning of the calendar brings.
