The premise for DJ Shadow‘s “Scale It Back” video is one of the most original I’ve ever encountered. Before Little Dragon‘s vocals kick in, we’re left in an empty room with an old man sorting cards. To remember the order of the deck, he makes mental associations between pairs of cards and images–thus a hummingbird recalls one pair; a giant snake, another. This sets the scene for the crazy cast of characters that burst forth and the equally crazy antics that ensue.
