Twitter and Ping! Align to Make it Easier to Find New Music

First Stars, now Apple and Twitter?! SF’s own Geographer was recently tapped to open for Stars domestic tour, now as the background music for yesterday’s announcement that Twitter is hopping in bed with Ping (Apple’s social network for music). It’s so good to see Geographer get proper, well, props.

On the tech tip, it seems like Twitter is adding some new functionality everyday. The addition of Ping in theory will make it easy to find new music. Music that is on iTunes, of course. Simply link your accounts and your Ping activity will be integrated into your tweets. Album deets and artwork will open in Twitter’s details pane with the ability to preview the song from iTunes. I gather Twitter has an affiliate relationship in place. Can you say, cha-ching?

Steve Jobs delivers iTunes 10 and PING.

“OMG. You listen to Lady Gaga too? Can we be BFFs now?”

Great. Another way for people to judge me. It’s PING, people. Now my friends can see what I’m listening to in iTunes. No more secret spins for you Goo Goo Dolls. Adios Justin Bieber. I’m setting you fuckers to private.

PING allows you to share with your friends guilty pleasures and tastemaker tracks. You’ll also be able to pal up on concerts and events. And since lists are all the rage, you can create a custom “Top 10″ list from your library. Share with the world or a select number of friends. I suggest keeping it to those really close to you because of those skeletons in your closet.
