Some of you might have seen the John Lennon YouTube hompage spotlight and Google Doodle to celebrate Lennon’s life and music. As part of this celebration, the Lennon Signature Box Set, containing the digitally remastered studio albums and a 2CD bonus set including 13 previously unreleased home songs, has been released. The set also has personal essays from Yoko, Sean and Julian, a 60-page hardbound book and a 70th birthday art print. You can get it at johnlennon.com where you’ll also find more information about this month-long celebration!
The YouTube spotlight included a personal video from Yoko Ono (along with Ringo, Aerosmith, etc.) asking the world to submit videotaped tributes to John at www.youtube.com/johnlennon

We’re in total pout-mode that Swedish star Robyn(pictured) isn’t coming anywhere near San Francisco, but we’re sure that some of you will be interested that the super-fun singer will be stopping in the states all through November. Her energy-fused shows coupled with her sweet poppy vocals definitely insure a pretty sweet concert outing.
Man, Jane’s Addiction‘s bassist position seems to be cursed. Just five months after former Guns N’ Roses member Duff McKagan joined the band, the band has announced that they’ve parted ways due to musical differences: “Hey we wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record. We love the songs we worked on with him — and the gigs were a blast — but musically we were all headed in different directions. From here Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him all the best,” the band said in an e-mail.
Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon in 1980 devastating hundreds of thousands of music fans, has been denied parole. This is the sixth time Chapman has attempted parole on his 20 years to life sentence; he won’t be able to try again until 2012.
Seems like veteran Irish rockers the Pogues are calling it quits again. They broke up in 1996, and reunited in 2001, and now the Pogues will stop touring after this holiday season. So far they’ve got stops in England and Scotland as a part of their farewell tour, but we can hope that they’ll make it stateside.
Carlos Santana proposed to girlfriend and acclaimed drummer Cindy Blackman at his Chicago tour stop this weekend. Blackman, who had just finished her “virtuoso drum solo,” said yes. “Cindy and I are blessed to have found each other,” said Santana in a press release. “Being in love is a gift from the universe, and the spirit and vibrations that come with it are infinitely powerful. I look forward to expressing that incredible energy through my music, and in helping to tip the balance toward more love in the world with what Cindy and I share.”
If you’ve been holding out for a full-on Police reunion, forget about it, kids. Sting has officially killed all hopes for the reunion of the ’80s hitmakers. “People reacted to The Police coming back as if mum and dad had got together, you could see that emotion in the audience,” Sting told Contact Music. “But who really wants to go and live with the wife you divorced? I won’t do it again. But I don’t need to I’ve done it now.”
From time to time you can download free mp3s from artists and bands that we love listening to. If that bugs you, because you hate free stuff and wish to be compensated for it, let us know and we will remove it ASAP. Happy listening.
