Mexico’s Le Butcherettes rocked The Warfield Tuesday night as they opened for Iggy and The Stooges. The garage rock trio’s set included songs from their debut album, Sin Sin Sin. Led by frontwoman Teri Gender Bender, thrashing, dancing, and screaming while sporting a blood-spattered apron, the band’s energy and music captivated the punk rock crowd.

We haven’t had any new studio albums from Lauryn Hill (pictured) since 1998, and boy, has that made us sad. At a recent stop in NYC for the Rock the Bells tour, Lauryn Hill told MTV that she had a whole lot to say, and an album may be in her future. “We’re getting closer. That’s all I can say,” she told MTV.
Seems like veteran Irish rockers the Pogues are calling it quits again. They broke up in 1996, and reunited in 2001, and now the Pogues will stop touring after this holiday season. So far they’ve got stops in England and Scotland as a part of their farewell tour, but we can hope that they’ll make it stateside.
Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band will be celebrating what would have been John Lennon‘s 70th birthday with a couple of super-star-studded concerts in L.A. in October. Performers like Lady Gaga, Iggy Pop, Perry Farrell, RZA and many more will honor the late singer.

For some time San Francisco clubs have been struggling with the ABC (Department of Alcoholic Beverage Club) cracking down on everything from blocking sidewalks to infusions and bitters, besides the usual underage patron complaints. In the ongoing saga, some promoters and club employees are alleging that they are victims of police harassment, which SF Weekly has documented in a lengthy expose.
Ryan Adams (pictured) has ended his yearlong hiatus with the release next week of Orion, a heavy metal album. That sentence was definitely typed correctly, kids. Adams posted a poll to his Facebook as a joke to see if any of his fans would be interested in purchasing the album, thinking that he’d get a minimal response. Almost 70,000 people said they would. So much for retirement.
Finally, Iggy Pop and the Stooges have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! And true to form, Pop was topless for the induction, but no broken glass was in sight. Pop — keeping it classy. Billie Joe Armstrong of Greenday was on hand to do the honors, and joined the Stooges and Eddie Vedder on stage for what was described as a “raucous” version of “I Wanna Be Your Dog”.
